SECURE FUTURES FOR YOUNG TEENMOMS IN KENYA

Empowering young mothers through sports and life skills

The Secure Futures Project aims to empower 3,000 pregnant adolescent girls and young mothers in marginalized communities over the next five years. Through sports programs, life skills training, and mental health support, all delivered by local female coaches, we help young mothers build resilience and secure brighter futures.

Mom in Balance plays an essential role by offering technical expertise in training local coaches and equipping them with specialized workout programs. Our aim is to empower these coaches to deliver safe and responsible training to participants, amplifying the reach and impact of our initiative. In partnership with Women Win and the local organization Vijana Amani Pamoja (VAP), we are fostering a supportive environment where young women can regain their confidence, build self-reliance, and enhance both their physical and mental well-being through this sustainable approach.

About Women Win
Results of the Kenya pilot

From 2020 to 2022, the Secure Futures project was successfully piloted in the Kiambiu slum in Nairobi, Kenya. During this period, Mom in Balance played a key role by providing technical support and training 75 local female coaches to deliver specialized workout programs safely and responsibly. The initiative empowered more than 800 young mothers to improve their physical and mental well-being through sports and life skills education. Additionally, 84% of participants accessed vital mental health services and 527 young mothers received entrepreneurship and employability training, significantly boosting their self-reliance. This successful pilot highlighted the transformative power of combining sports, life skills and mental health support, inspiring the creation of the Pink Band Movement to expand our impact globally.

SCALING IMPACT

Expanding the Secure Futures program to reach more women

In June 2024, after the success of the pilot, we officially launched our first large-scale project under the Secure Futures initiative. With a generous starting capital from the 'de Nederlandse Postcodeloterij', we now have the opportunity to roll out our first three impactful projects in Kenya, Brazil and Guatemala. Working closely with Women Win and our local partners, we are excited to expand our reach and empower thousands of women worldwide. Together, we are committed to creating lasting change and are thrilled to have such strong partners by our side.
